As he usually does for any gift giving occasion, my husband recently asked me what I wanted for Mother's day. For once in my life, I really couldn't think of any material thing that I "wanted". I honestly couldn't think of anything that I "needed" either. Then I got to thinking how awesome this was. I don't want or need for anything! I have everything I need and am perfectly content with everything I have. I have a loving husband and son, a great network of supporting friends and family, a house, a reliable vehicle, I have a part time that I LOVE, what more could a girl ask for?
Knowing that my husband would not be satisfied with getting me "nothing", I started thinking about what he could do with my mother's day money. It took a few minutes, but I thought of something. I asked him to make a donation to www.love146.org in my name.
If you've never heard of www.love146.org don't feel bad, not many have and for the simple reason that not many want to. Love146 is an organization that works to protect future and former child sex slaves. Yes, this is a real issue. In the time you've taken to read this blog, 2 more little girls have started new lives in a brothel, servicing as many as 40 customers a day.
You have proabably never heard of love 146 because we don't want to. We don't want to look at our children and think that somewhere else in the world other mother's children, much like our own, are living and working in brothels.
Please don't read this blog and think that I'm putting myself on a pedestal and saying "look how great I am, I gave my mother's day gift to charity". That's not my point, my whole point is, be thankful for what you have. Be thankful that your children are safe and loved. Be thankful for your mother's day gifts, whether it be a day at the spa or a macaroni necklace. Be thankful if you don't want or need for anything. Be thankful if you are able to give away your mother's day gift.
